In the Ibo District, the lessons are starting again

The Cumuamba school was rebuilt and the children are back in school. After the devastation of cyclone Kenneth, work continues in the school of Rituto

In recent months the operators of Istituto Oikos are constantly in the field to face the emergency caused by cyclone Kenneth, which hit the north of Mozambique on April 25th. The islands of Ibo, Quirimba, Matemo and Quirambo - in the Quirimbas National Park - have suffered enormous damages, but thanks to the help of our supporters we are already seeing first-hand the first results. On the island of Ibo, where we have been working since 2012, we started the post-emergency reconstructions of the schools.
The children of the Cumuamba primary school have finally resumed the lessons. The Cumuamba primary school consists of three classrooms dedicated to students and a school office for school staff. The wooden bearing structure, which had given way under the fury of the cyclone, was in fact entirely rebuilt with new beams and joists. We then provided a new roof covering with corrugated metal sheets and fixed the beams to the wall. Finally, we have whitened both the interior and exterior walls of the school.
In Mozambique, one never stops. In these days our staff is completing the reconstruction of the Rituto primary school. Even on the island of Matemo, the children can't wait to resume their lessons and return to their lives before the cyclone. However, to carry out the work in the two schools of the island, we need you.
