JOIN ONE OF OUR COURSES

Istituto Oikos organises responsible tourism and watercolour painting courses at Mkuru Training Camp, in the heart of the Maasai steppes, Northern Tanzania .

Both of the initiatives have the same purpose: to create a communication link between European citizens interested in development issues and cultural tourism as a tool for development and local communities living in the areas surrounding National Parks in Tanzania.

To participate in the courses you don’t need a scientific background, but just the wish to become confident with the theme of ecology, sustainable management of natural resources and responsible tourism as a tool for development, with a particular attention to the environmental and social backgrounds of the East African savannah.

The courses last for two weeks and are led by local and international experts. The participants will have also the opportunity to challenge themselves in field activities and adventure safaris. The Maasai shepherds will guide you for walking or the camel safari.

These initiatives are promoted and managed by Istituto Oikos in co-operation with the Maasai community of Mkuru, The Insubria State Univeristy, the Arumeru District and Tanzania National Parks. Every course is open for up to 8 European citizens. Up to 8 African citizens, already involved as local guides and selected during our training projects will be also join the course for free.

At the end of the course, if you wish, it would be possible to organise a safari in some of the Tanzanian National Parks, with a local Tour Operator.
