WHAT WE CAN DO TOGETHER
If you agree with the mission and objectives of Oikos and you would like to be a part of the initiatives that keep us busy in Africa and in Italy, you will find all the information necessary to be in direct contact with us , and to help us with your work or through funding our co-operation programmes, in this section.
With just a simple donation, of any amount, you can give our association valuable help. You can assist us in our campaigns in Africa and you can encourage us to find, together with our local partners, a new way to reconcile nature conservation and socio-economic development.
To participate in our field research you don’t need to have any scientific background. You just need enthusiasm, adaptability, and the wish to contribute to Istituto Oikos’s commitment to the Maasai population of Mkuru. We undertake to defend their interests and the surroundings in which they live. Istituto Oikos tries to give research opportunities to anybody who is interested in the sustainable management of natural resources.
If you are interested in the sustainable management of natural resources in a savannah environment, if you are fascinated by local cultures and you believe in responsible tourism as a tool for development, you are the right person to participate in our training courses, for local and international students. The courses available at Mkuru Training Camp are:
- environmental management and cultural tourism in the Maasai steppe;
- watercolour painting course in the Maasai steppe.
Be a part of our adventurous expedition
If you love adventure, but you want more than just that. If you would like your ventures to have a purpose, we suggest you to participate in our camel safari from the Mkuru village to Lake Natron. The Maasai shepherds will guide you through mystic surroundings on an ancient route that leads to the active volcano Oldonyo Lengai, a mountain sacred to the Maasai population. You will have the chance to share an extraordinary experience with the Maasai population and to financially contribute, through the cost of the trip, to their development. Two thirds of the cost will go in favour of the Maasai community of Mkuru.
