Io Maasai Io Maasai is a book about the Maasai world in Mkuru, a small village close to Mount Meru in Northern Tanzania. However, it is not a book on Maasai, but it is the Maasai’s book, a sort of “collector” that documents, with original testimonies and pictures, moments of life, memories, observations, problems and hopes of the Mkuru society.

 

Mkuru is a community that thanks to the well-established relation of trust and collaboration with Istituto Oikos, has put aside the traditional mistrust and has opened itself to the lens of a camera and to the journalist’s notebook.

 

The voices of the Maasai themselves, transposed into pictures and stories, guide the reader inside the village of Mkuru and narrate the day by day reality of a community in the balance between the ancient traditions and the outside world.

 

The book is a story made of images and testimonies and through its pages the Maasai take the reader inside their village and their world.
